Hiyooori joins the adventure! (and some progress updates)
Well, if we would post regular updates, we wouldn’t be NekTek.
First and foremost: Celebrations are in order, as we welcome Hiyooori into our team! We are glad to have her on board, and look forward to many projects together!
Otherwise, Digitality has been progressing slowly, but steadily. We know we’ve promised a demo a long while ago, but do not be deceived by the lack of it: While we still think it’s not ready for a demo yet, that doesn’t mean that there was no progress at all. Most of our efforts currently go into later chapters that wouldn’t be part of the demo anyway, so we’ll then have a shorter time between demo and full release.
Aside from Digitality, I’ve been experimenting with various game ideas which could evolve into a later project: twin-stick shooters, first person shooters, puzzle games, and RPGs. None of those experiments are on our GitLab page, but there’s not much you’re missing out on; it’s mostly just to see what works and what doesn’t.
However, here’s a few small videos demonstrating said experiments:
This was an experiment with first-person controls and importing Quake .map files, made with Trenchbroom, into Godot; using func_godot as plugin for that. I made it import .map files during runtime for easier moddability, and I tried implementing an automatic mesh partitioner for worldspawn, but that didn't go really far yet. Also wasn't tested properly :P
Inspired by a fun game I played in the past, Flying Heroes, and from the amazing game Descent, I tried implementing a first person 6-degrees-of-freedom shooter, where you're not controlling a space ship, but rather a fast and agile fantasy vehicle (don't ask me what precisely yet). Feels pretty good to control.
And this was another take at the previously listed 6DOF-FPS, but this time implemented as a 2D twin-stick shooter. If we actually go forth with a project, I think it will be this one, but no promises yet. Space ship model is from Gundy!
And that’s it so far; we’ll keep you informed of any other particular news!
